District Training Opportunities for Unit Leaders
BALOO AND OLS Training
Fall 2011: November 4-6, 2011
Spring 2012: April 6-8, 2011
The Audubon District invites you to participate in Outdoor Leadership Skills Training, a fun-filled program of hands-on skills
training in the outdoors, designed to help you master basic camp skills
required to prepare Webelos and first year Boy Scouts in the basic outdoor skills needed to make the most out of Scouting. Instructors will help you learn how to set up camp, cook, work with woods
tools and ropes, first aid, planning campfire programs, map reading and
compass skills, hiking and packing techniques, nature identification,
and Leave No Trace. Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of
the Boy Scout Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to
yourself and the youth you serve. It will increase your comfort level
and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader. The program will
also give you the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders from your
area, meet new friends, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow unit
leaders. The cost of the training is $10.00 and includes all training materials and meals. More information will be available by October 8th.
2011 Scout Leaders' Appreciation Dinner
(November 12, 2011 7:00 p.m. at John James Audubon State Park)
The district committee is proud to announce that a special Scout Leaders' Appreciation Dinner will be held this year at the John James Audubon State Park. This is the first year of the event and we hope to accomplish two goals - to celebrate the contributions of all our Scout leaders - from the Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, all the way to Den Leaders and committee members are invited to attend.
District Food Drive
(November 12 through December 17, 2011)
The district's fall food drive will begin on November 12 and will run through December 17th. Plans are underway to contact managers from various grocery stores across our district to allow both packs and troops to set up collections points within the district. As many of you know, the current economic conditions has had an impact on the number of families that have become dependent upon the various food closets across our five county area - this is a chance for our Scouts to make a difference within our communities. If you are interested in helping with the coordination of this event, contact the district executive or Tammy Leathem, the district's
civic service chair.
