Based in Owensboro, Kentucky, the Shawnee Trails Council covers an area consisting of thirty-five western Kentucky counties, three southern Illinois counties, and the community of South Fulton, Tennessee.  Currently, the council serves over 5,200 youth in a variety of Scouting programs such as Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, and Exploring.  Since January 2009, the council has seen an average monthly growth of 11% in youth membership, an average of 3.5% increase in adult membership, with a 25% increase in camp attendance over the summer.  These increases make the Shawnee Trails Council one of the top five fastest growing councils in the nation.

The impact on youth through the programs provided by the council is remarkable.  In 2008 and 2009, there have been 192 Scouts that have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest personal recognition in the Boy Scouting program.  The skills and values that youth learn in the various programs not only stay with them for life, but in the case of a handful of Scouts, were actually used to impact or save the life of someone else.  Currently, there is one Scout who has been awarded the Medal of Merit, which is presented to Scouts and Scout leaders for meritorious actions above and beyond what is expected of a youth or adult.  There are currently two Scouts whose actions are pending national review for the Medal of Merit.  One Scout has been honored with the Heroism Award, which is presented to Scouts and Scout leaders for saving or attempting to save a life at minimum risk to self.
