What is Winter Camp?
Winter Camp is a great time to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors,
while also earning important advancement on the trail to Eagle. At Camp Roy C. Manchester, located near Benton, Kentucky, our staff is focused on providing the
best possible program, including many merit badges that are not
normally offered at summer camp. Depending
on the weather, Scouts might earn their Polar Bear camping award.
Winter Camp is designed for Boy Scout troops and offers Scouts the chance to have four nights of winter camping that include advancement opportunities and special fun activities staffed by the Order of the Arrow White Horse Lodge of Shawnee Trails Council.
What merit badges are offered at Winter Camp?
Each year, the council's program committee, under the leadership of the council's vice president of programs will determine which merit badges will be offered at Winter Camp. At the 2010 Winter Camp, eighteen merit badges - including the four historical merit badges - were offered. Please consult the Winter Camp Leader's Guide or contact the council's program committee for more information.
This year's winter camp will offer these merit badges: American Heritage, Woodwork, Composite Materials, Genealogy, Crime Prevention, Public Health, Dentistry, Traffic Safety, Nuclear Science, Robotics, Engineering, Citizenship of the Nation, Citizenship of the World, Environmental Science, First Aid, Bugling, Railroading, Soil and Water Conservation, and Chemistry.
Additionally, the 2011 Winter Camp will offer Wilderness First Aid training, the Paul Bunyan Woodsman Award, C.O.P.E. Instructor Training, and a Hunter Safety Course.
